Like most of those who chose to tune in last night
to watch President Trump’s first speech before a joint session of Congress, I
came away very impressed, very optimistic and very comfortable in my decision
to vote for him. At the end of the
speech I knew I had done the right thing for my country. I came away feeling more confident about the
future than I have been in eight years.
And I might add, the speech was quite refreshing when compared to the
narcissistic drivel that we were constantly exposed to by Barry. It has been years since I had listened to one
of these speeches from beginning to end and was left wanting more when it finally
was over.
And it was in choosing who it would be to make their response to the president’s speech that the Democrats apparently chose to go
with folksy, with just a touch of senile.
And they chose as their messenger a former Democrat governor of
Kentucky, Steve Beshear. However, it was
Mr. Beshear who got the Democrats' response to President Trump's address off to
somewhat of a rocky start after mistakenly introducing himself as a Republican. And I must admit he did have me scratching my
head when he referred to himself as being, first and foremost, a proud
Republican. And I have since heard more
than a few Democrats are now questioning his selection.
Here is a little excerpt from Mr. Beshear’s response: "From 2007 to 2017. I'm a private
citizen now. I'm here in Lexington, Kentucky some 400 miles from Washington at
a diner with neighbors, Democrats and Republicans, where we watched the
president's address. I'm a proud Democrat, but
first and foremost I'm a proud Republican, and Democrat and mostly
American. Like many of you, I am worried about the future of this nation. Look,
I grew up in Kentucky in a small town called Dawson springs. My dad and
granddad were Baptist preachers. My family owned a funeral home, and my wife
Jane and I have been married for almost 50 years."
So I watched about as much of it as I could, if for no
other reason than because of the potential entertainment value, but when, as is
usually the case with Democrats, he veered off into the weeds and started
spewing the same old leftist bullshit about how President Trump has loaded his
cabinet with billionaires and proceeded to call Trump's warring with
intelligence agencies, the judiciary and the press 'reckless,' for the most
part I pretty much just stopped listening.
When he began by saying, “Mr. President, as a candidate, you promised to
be a champion for families struggling to make ends meet and I hope you live up
to that promise,” it became blah, blah, blah.
Then he began attacking the president for what he
said was President Trump’s not living up to his word. And he continued by saying, “But one of the
very first executive orders makes it harder for those families to afford a
mortgage.” Then he proceeded to go after
Trump for wanting to roll back what has been the disastrous Dodd-Frank
legislation consisting of regulations that were put in place after the Democrat
created 2008 financial crash. And then
he went on to say, “And you picked a cabinet of billionaires and Wall Street
insiders.” And then charged, “That's not
being our champion, that's being Wall Street's champion.” Just more blah, blah, blah.
And it was from there that he went on to say, “And
even more troubling, you and your Republican allies in Congress seem determined
to rip affordable health insurance away from millions of Americans who most
need it.” Now of course he didn’t bother
to mention anything about the millions of folks who are now faced with
escalating premiums and huge deductibles.
But he did say, “Does the Affordable Care Act need some repairs? Sure it
does.” He then added, “But so far every
Republican idea to replace the Affordable Care Act would reduce the number of
Americans covered, despite your promises to the contrary.” Even more blah, blah, blah.
And in being the good Democrat, which I guess is
what he must consider himself to be, he felt compelled to bring up Russia,
which the president didn't mention in his speech, and went after Trump for some
of his so-called ‘petty’ fights. He
said, “President Trump also needs to understand that people may disagree with
him from time to time, but that doesn't make them his enemies.” And he added, “When the president attacks the
loyalty and the credibility of our intelligence agencies, the court system, the
military, the free press, individual Americans, simply because he doesn't like
what they say, he's eroding our democracy and that's reckless.”
But it was when Beshear went on to speak of what
‘real leaders’ do that this entire response was reduced to pure silliness. He said, “Real leaders don't spread derision
and division.” And then he went on to
add, “Real leaders strengthen, they unify, they partner and they offer real
solutions, instead of ultimatums and blame.”
So I found myself wondering, is that what he saw in Barry? A leader who unified, partnered and was someone
who offered real solutions? Because if
that’s the case this guy is far more demented than just being confused about
which political party it is that he belongs to.
Because by that definition Barry was nothing less than an abysmal
failure.
This charade of a response proves yet again that the
Democrat Party is no longer for the people or for America. What this response became about was trying to
con more people into voting for Democrat candidates. This despite the fact that it’s Democrat
policies, as well as everything their leftist ideology represents, that have
been nothing less than an abject failure.
America and its citizens are now forced to live with the consequences of
both, we see this every day and all around us.
Whether it’s this twisted mentality toward open borders, allowing in a
flood of refugees or high cost healthcare, to name just a few, America just
can’t take anymore.
And while I sure former governor Beshear is a nice
guy, it was as soon as he began spewing nothing but typical Democrat rhetoric
that has no connection to reality that he simply lost all credibility, and
therefore any reason to keep listening to him.
He came across as a doddering old fool who is, like most Democrats, so
completely out of touch with what most Americans want and need, and he once
again made quite clear why it was that Trump won. What’s most important to the Democrat Party
is not what’s most important to the majority of Americans. And still the party continues to drift
further and further to the left expecting that Americans will drift with it.
