OBAMACARE…WHAT WAS TO BE A BOON DIDN’T TURN OUT THAT WAY…

The arrival of government-run healthcare under the banner of Obamacare was, and actually still is, heralded by progressives from coast to coast. It was to be a boon to all Americans at every single social level. It would do what everyone said couldn’t be done, it would bring down costs while at the same time broadening choices for all. But, as they say, truth is often stranger than fiction. Because even though it was sold to us as being the greatest thing since sliced bread, the Democrats, who could not be bothered to read even a single page of their creation, were still forced to use all manner of political trickery to ‘pass’ it so that the legislation which bears his last name, could then be moved on to the desk of Barry "Almighty" for signature.

And at the time it was the ‘Botox" addicted Democrat Speaker of the House who loudly declared that the legislation would first need to passed ‘before’ we would be able to see what was in it. Well, Americans are now beginning to find out what’s in it, and it ain’t pretty. From a half-assed, stitched together website to skyrocketing premiums to millions loosing their coverage, it’s hard to describe this thing as being anything other than a failure. And now we’re being told that 80 million people with employer health plans could find their coverage being canceled because they are not compliant with Obamacare. And their losses would be ‘in addition to’ the millions who have already found their individual coverage cancelled for the very same reason.

Stan Veuger of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) said that in addition to the individual cancellations, "at least half the people on employer plans would by 2014 start losing plans as well." There are approximately 157 million employer health care policy holders. And Avik Roy of the Manhattan Institute added, "the administration estimated that approximately 78 million Americans with employer sponsored insurance would lose their existing coverage due to the Affordable Care Act." An analysis by the American Enterprise Institute showed the administration anticipates up to 100 million small businesses would have policies canceled or be compelled to send workers onto the Obamacare exchanges. What a deal?

And we know that administration was very well aware of the impact that Obamacare would have, three years ago. In fact, according to the Federal Register, its mid-range estimate was that by the end of 2014, 76 percent of all small group plans would be cancelled, along with 55 percent of large employer plans. The reason behind the losses is that current plans don't meet the idiotic requirements of Obamacare, which dictate that each plan must cover a list of essential benefits, whether people actually want them or not. "Things like maternity care or acupuncture or extensive drug coverage," said Veuger. "And so now the law is going to force them to buy policies that they could have gotten in the past if they wanted to but they chose not to."

So, since Americans passed up an opportunity in 2012 to remove this Obamcare albatross from around their collective neck, can we, or even should we, expect them to do anything different in 2014 or even 2016? And should we be surprised, or even shocked, when they don’t? I must admit, these days my confidence in the ability of the American people to be able to figure out what’s best for the country is nowhere near what it used to be. And even though I’m being told, and by many who should know, that the Republicans now have the upper hand going into next year’s elections, I’m not convinced. Because most of those folks are the very same ones who were telling me, and with some degree of confidence, that Romney would win in a landslide.

Over the course of the coming months I’m sure that we can expect to see Barry and the Democrats pulling out all the stops as they work to not only preserve Obamacare in its entirety but to push through some manner of immigration ‘reform’ the end result of which would be to improve their chances at the ballot box next November. And with the team of gutless morons that we seem to have on our side in Congress, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we were to simply hand over to the Democrats everything that they want. So, as is usually the case, it will be left up to we the people to do all that we can in the attempt to salvage what we can of what remains of our once prosperous nation. But, I’m afraid, we seem to be going against the current.
