Apparently Barry “Almighty”, our ‘Dear Beloved Leader’,
is once again giving some thought to using his mighty pen and, instead of
following the process dictated to him by our Constitution which up until Barry
arrived on the scene involved the Legislative Branch of our government, is, as
we speak, crafting yet another one of his rather infamous executive
orders. This latest one would, or so we
are told, impose new background-check requirements on people buying guns from
‘high-volume’ dealers.
This new and most recent mandate to come down to us
from ‘On High’ would require dealers who go over a certain number of sales per
year to have a license from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and
Explosives and do background checks people attempting to buy guns from
them. But look, I think we can all agree
that this latest ploy of Barry’s is really nothing more than window
dressing. It does nothing to address the
problem, and it is my sense that Barry is just fine with that.
But this is far from being the first time Barry has
asserted his executive authority to change policies without Congress. After the Dec. 2012, shooting at Sandy Hook
Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Barry tasked ‘Slow Joe’ Biden with devising
a list of policy proposals in response.
It was then in Jan. 2013 that Barry announced 23 executive actions
ranging from restarting federal research into the causes of gun violence to
providing parity for mental health coverage under private insurance plans.
Barry pushed for legislation mandating universal
background checks on gun sales, an effort that failed in the Senate in April
2013. And in August of that same year,
Barry closed two gun-sale ‘loopholes’ through executive authority, subjecting
gun purchases by corporations and trusts to background checks and banning
almost all re-imports of military surplus firearms to private entities. And he now intends to renew his efforts in
the wake of the Umpqua Community College killings last week in Oregon.
Barry said just last week that he had again asked
his administration to see "what kinds of authorities do we have to enforce
the laws that we have in place more effectively to keep guns out of the hands
of criminals." Now keep in mind here
that Federal law already requires dealers who are "engaged in the
business" to perform background checks, but the new executive action would
add to that anyone who sells a ‘significant number’ of guns per year. So what equates to a ‘significant number?’
Current law exempts anyone "who makes
occasional sales, exchanges, or purchases of firearms for the enhancement of a
personal collection or for a hobby, or who sells all or part of his personal
collection of firearms." The ATF
objects to the action, saying it would be difficult to enforce, and one
official told the paper, "Everyone realized it would be hugely politically
controversial." But if it’s like
most of this nation’s other gun laws, it will end up going unenforced anyway.
Jennifer Baker, spokeswoman for the National Rifle
Association (NRA), said the change could "ensnare" people who were
not intended to be covered, such as a widow selling her husband's gun
collection. Ms. Baker said, "People
who repeatedly sell large volumes of firearms are already covered in the current
statute because they are already defined as 'engaged in the business.'" But Barry doesn’t care about any unintended
consequences, what’s important is that he look like he’s doing something.
And it was Louisiana Rep. John Fleming who said,
"I do not believe an executive order's going to solve any problems
here." And he went on to say,
"The president going beyond his powers to do things that should go through
legislation is a bad idea." But,
as we all know, Barry sees himself as being special, as being someone for whom
there is no need to remain within the strict confines placed upon his office by
the Constitution. He was after all, the
one we had all been waiting for.
The fact is that stricter gun laws have no effect on
what seems to have Barry so worked up, that being our right to own guns. When looking at places like Chicago,
Baltimore, New York or any big city, these bastions of leftwing lunacy all have
strict gun laws and the bad guys are still able to get their hands on a gun. And let’s be real here, this cry for stricter
gun laws has nothing whatsoever to do with public safety. What it has
everything to do with is getting guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens.
The bottom line here it that Barry wants to appear
to be doing something, while really doing nothing at all. Gun free zones make absolutely no sense
except to Democrats and the guy with the gun.
What Barry, as well as every other Democrat, really wants to have happen
here is for these shootings to continue and, in the words of Ed Rendell, to be
as horrific as possible. The reason
being is that Democrats see that as being the best way for them to get rid of
the Second Amendment.
