Don’t you just love it when the political
shenanigans pulled by the Democrats blow up in their face. Especially when they have ‘Dingy Harry’ Reid
to thank for it. Democrats are now decrying the very same major legislative
change that they championed back in 2013 because now it’s setting
President-elect Trump’s cabinet choices up for easy confirmation hearings. The then-Democrat Senate, led by ‘Dingy Harry’
Reid, passed a historic rule in 2013 called, “the nuclear option,” which
eliminated the use of the filibuster on all presidential nominees except those
to the U.S. Supreme Court. While at the
time liberals loved the rule for allowing Barry to push through key
nominations, they are now livid. The
nuclear option now allows Donald Trump, with a Republican Senate, to have his
appointments confirmed with a simple majority vote.
Republicans wholeheartedly opposed the nuclear
option in 2013, which effectively left them with no recourse when Barry named
his executive and judicial nominees, which was the rationale behind ‘Dingy’s’
scheme in the first place. Under the
nuclear option, Supreme Court picks and legislation still need 60 votes to be
filibuster-proof, but Cabinet appointments can be approved with just 51
votes. The Republicans currently have
over 51 seats in the Senate. At the
time, ‘Dingy’ said the rule was necessary.
‘Dingy’ told reporters at the time, “The American people believe the
Senate is broken, and I believe the American people are right.” Adding, “It’s time to get the Senate working
again.” The liberal media was firmly behind ‘Dingy’, applauding the rule change
as something necessary for America’s democratic system.
It was liberal commentator Hilary Rosen from the
Clinton News Network, aka CNN, who was heard to say at the time, “All this
really does is say that the president that we elected to actually run the
government gets to run the government.”
And not to be outdone, it was the resident moron over at there at HBO,
Bill Maher, who piped up and said, “Now majority rules, you know, almost like a
democracy?” And then we had she who would
become the future Hitlery spokesmoron, Karen Finney, who said, “Even the
reaction to this announcement seems to be one more piece of evidence that this
Republican Party is not interested in doing the business of the country.” I’d be curious know what all these leftwing
kooks think about things now. Do they
still think it’s a good idea? Somehow I
doubt it, which makes it all the more enjoyable.
While the 2013 ruling was a crowning achievement of
the Democrats just a few years ago, it has now become a thorn in the side of Chuckie
Schumer, who has now assumed the role of Senate Minority Leader from ‘Dingy
Harry’. It was Chuckie who told CNN, “I
argued against it at the time. I said both for Supreme Court and in Cabinet
should be 60, because on such important positions there should be some degree
of bipartisanship.” He went on to say,
“I won on Supreme Court, lost on Cabinet, but it’s what we have to live with
now.” And it was Democrat strategist
Maria Cardona’s words from 2013 that were arguably the most foreboding:
“There’s no question that we will one day come to regret this.” But the Democrats never thought they would
lose control of the Congress ever again after the historic elections of 2008.
The Republicans were in absolute disarray and had
similar visions of the end of America that the left currently believes with the
exception that the Republicans accepted their defeat and went about rebuilding
their party, meeting with a rather impressive level of success. The Democrats have yet to confront their many shortcomings.
The hubris exhibited by the 111th Congress was unparalleled and when coupled
with ‘Dingy Harry’ Reid’s own brand of humility (or lack thereof) brought the
Democrats to the point where they are now at. I must confess that I do find a certain level
of amusement in the Democrats current predicament regarding "the nuclear
option". If for no other reason
that it will definitely make Trumps job a little easier. But that said, there will come a day when the
Democrats will again regain control.
But for now let’s savor the fact that the Democrats essentially
shot themselves in the foot by deciding to pull the trigger on the “nuclear
option”. And let’s enjoy the level of
misery they brought upon themselves.
After all, ‘Dingy Harry’ and the Democrats went by the motto of "no
negotiations, no compromise" while hypocritically calling Republicans
"obstructionists." And now it’s
the Democrats who are demanding that the Republicans must be bipartisan and
work across the aisle. Excuse me? So we
have yet another example of Democrat hypocrisy, since when they controlled
Congress they had absolutely no interest whatsoever in doing so. And if Mitch McConnell has any balls at all he
will take the bed made by ‘Dingy Harry’ Reid and force the Democrats to now
wallow in it for the next two years.
Nothing would give me more enjoyment.
