Well lookee what we have here! It would seem that fresh off his 21-hour filibuster against Obamacare funding, we have a new poll that shows Sen. Ted Cruz has now leapfrogged past his potential rivals for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination and that GOP primary voters trust now him more than their party leaders on Capitol Hill. The Public Policy Polling survey found that 20 percent of those surveyed supported Mr. Cruz, Texas Republican, while 17 percent supposed Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, with two RINOS, Chris Christies and Jeb Bush coming in at 14 percent 11 percent respectively.
"Ted Cruz this week established himself as the grassroots hero of the Republican party," said Dean Debnam, president of PPP. "The party has more faith in him than their more official leaders like Mitch McConnell and John Boehner." Mr. Cruz has climbed eight percentage points in the poll since July - thanks in large part to strong support from people who identified themselves as "very conservative" and who support a government shutdown by a 75 percent to 10 percent margin. Speaking for myself, I am a big fan. And I really want to believe that he is, in fact, the real deal.
And I’m sure this is something that comes as no surprise, the poll also found that Mr. Cruz is now more trusted then Mr. McConnell, the Senate minority leader, Mr. Boehner, the speaker of the House, and even Sen. John ‘The Maverick" McCain, our party’s loser of a 2008 presidential nominee. "Our numbers also suggest that Cruz is now viewed more broadly as the leader of the Republican Party," the poll analysis said. "He now has more credibility with the GOP base than the folks who have been leading the party for years." Well, that because those folks have essentially been lying to us for years!
And rumor has it that The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is very pleased with the notion of Mr. Cruz becoming the face of the Republican Party. Although I think they may be a little premature if already planning a campaign strategy that would undoubtedly be centered around their desire to portray him as being some right wing ideologue. The one thing I like about Cruz is that I doubt very seriously if we’d see him backing down, or shying away from a fight. And in maybe I’m getting a little premature myself, but if Cruz does end up being our man, the scum-sucking Democrats better be ready to bring their A-team.
Like I said, the only thing that worries me is the thought that he isn’t what he seems to be. Although up to this point, I must admit, he has been pretty consistent. And I don’t think for a minute that he is some sort of publicity whore, as he has been accused of being by folks on both sides of the aisle. Accusations that I think have their source in what is nothing more than pure jealously. Cruz connects with people in a way most other politicians only wish they could. He’s perceived as being honest and as someone who you can actually trust. Both are qualities rare for a politician. He means what he says, and says what he means.
