FEWER AMERICANS TRUST THEIR GOVERNMENT…

Now look, I'll be the first one to admit that I'm far from being the sharpest knife in the drawer, but when I see something like this, the first thing that pops into my head is, what the Hell were people expecting. We have a president who is completely incompetent regarding all things having to do with foreign policy and who, at the same time, is a devoted socialist regarding all things that fall under the heading of domestic policy. Add to that, the fact that we also have a Democrat majority in the Senate who seems to be interested only in raising taxes as high as they can get away with so that they can then turn right around and put our country even further into debt. And our GOP controlled House has offered very little in the way of bona fide resistance.

And all of this craziness is currently taking place because this is exactly what the people voted for. And yet, according to a recent poll, less than half of the American people say they now trust the government to handle the nation's problems, and that, my friends, is a new all-time low. Personally, I voted for people who I, at least, hoped would vote against such things as tax increases as well as against, what has been up to this point, an insane amount of spending that has only continued to accelerate at pace never before seen until Barry first came strutting into the Oval Office. But, sadly, they have been far less aggressive than I had hoped they would be, with many being far too timid when it comes to resisting both higher taxes and additional spending.

So it is then that, according to this new poll, only 49 percent of Americans now say that they have a great deal or fair amount of confidence in the federal government to handle international problems, and again that would be according to Gallup as of today, Friday the 13th. The previous low was 51 percent, and that was back in 2007. And apparently, the public’s trust is even lower when it comes to domestic issues. In that instance, it's just 42 percent of Americans answered with a great deal or fair amount of confidence in the government to handle issues here at home. Our frustration, I think, is coming from different directions, with the moochers among us wanting more, and those of us forced into covering their costs, wanting to provide less.

And what I'm pretty sure is something that will come as absolutely no surprise to nearly anybody, is the fact that it's Democrats who seem to have far more confidence in our government than do Republicans. If you can believe it, it's a rather impressive 78 percent of Democrats who actually say that they trust their government on international issues compared to just 35 percent of Republicans who say the same. However, Democrats don’t have nearly as much faith when it comes to the government’s handling of domestic issues, with only 58 percent saying they have a great deal or fair amount of confidence compared to 25 percent of Republicans. I can only assume that the other 42 percent of Democrats aren't getting what they feel that they're entitled to.

Speaking for myself, these days I don't trust my government to get much of anything right. The majority of our politicians, today, seem to have forgotten exactly why it is that they have their current job and for whom it is that they work. And their primary interest seems to be in trying to find increasingly creative ways for them to keep their jobs. There seems to be very little interest on their part, in doing what would actually best for the country as a whole. And therein lies the problem. We have no one who is willing to dole out a little tough love to those who seem to be of the opinion that they are somehow owed something by the rest of us. When we should actually all consider ourselves to be quite fortunate if no other reason than the fact that we are blessed to live in this country.

And as such, there are certain responsibilities that are actually required of us if we are to have any hope of being able to hand down to future generations a country where they too will be able to enjoy the same freedoms that have been enjoyed by past generations and that are, much to the displeasure of Democrats, guaranteed to us by our Constitution. The most important of those being the electing of responsible men and women whom we can trust to steer our country in such a manner as to achieve the highest level prosperity for all, and to make sure that our enemies know well that we are not a country to be messed with. Unfortunately, these days, many of the politicians whom we chose to elect are nothing more than a reflection of our own reckless disregard for those who come after us.
