OBAMA…THE ALBATROSS AROUND THE NECK OF DEMOCRATS???

As the midterm elections inch ever closer it would seem that each passing day brings with it additional evidence that Barry, the very one whom we were all told was the one we had been waiting for, is now turning out to be little more than an albatross around the collective neck of those congressional Democrats seeking to be elected, or re-elected, in a mere 84 days. Now granted, politics is a highly uncertain science, to say the least, but as things appear to be right now, I wouldn’t want to be a Democrat seeking higher office.

Anyway, the most recent indicator of the possible impending electoral doom that awaits the Democrats comes to us in the form of yet another new poll. It’s one that at least would seem to indicate that Barry "Almighty’s’ rather anemic approval numbers may be having what can only be called an adverse effect on the chances of congressional Democrats of, not only, being able to maintain their current numbers, but also to even be able to minimize their losses, in the rapidly approaching midterm elections.

It is according to a McClatchy-Marist poll conducted Aug. 4 of 1,035 adults, that 42 percent of voters now say that their negative views of Barry make them more likely to vote for a Republican come this November instead of for a Democrat. The poll also found that, for the first time during this election cycle, more people said they would vote for a Republican than said they would vote for a Democrat for Congress, at 43 percent compared to 38 percent. And the preference for Republicans holds across regions and gender.

Barry's job approval rating is hovering at a near historic low for the poll of 40 percent, making it comparable to other polls in recent weeks. The results of the survey mark a significant divergence from voters' opinions earlier in the year. In December, the survey found that voters were evenly split in their support for the two major parties, while in February, a majority favored the Democrats by a margin of 2 percent. In April, the public favored Democrats by 6 percent at 48 percent to 42 percent, the poll noted.

Independents appear to have the most influence on the shifting numbers, offering a 12-point margin of support for Republicans over Democrats, the poll found. Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion said, "More people see themselves as independents, and those people seem to have bailed on Obama." The majority of those who tend to prefer going by the moniker of Independent usually tend to lean leftward on most issues, so the fact that there appears to be such a margin could be considered as being somewhat of a key indicator.

Democratic candidates, meanwhile, appear to be aware of the negative effect of Barry's approval rating is having on their chances, and are therefore working very hard to portray themselves as being something other than what they are. They do so by increasingly choosing to focus on those issues that traditionally belong to the GOP. Specifically, we find many Democrats now discussing issues such as balancing the budget, tax cuts, and border security in their advertising, without ever bothering to mention what their party affiliation is.

Liesl Hickey, the NRCC's executive director in an interview with Politico said, "It's pretty clear why Democrats would charade as Republicans in districts coast to coast — on every big issue, voters prefer Republicans to Democrats." He added, "But by portraying themselves as something they are not, these Democrats are playing a dangerous game that is destined to backfire with voters." Personally I’m not all that sure most voters are even smart enough to pick up on what the Democrats are doing.

But lets’ face it, it’s only by lying outright or by pretending to be something that they most definitely are not, that is the only way Democrats can ever win. Democrats have now raised deception to something that can now safely be considered an art form. And then it always after the fact that they claim to have been provided with some sort of mandate by the voters, regardless of the fact that it was gained under false pretenses. And until enough people start throwing the bullshit flag not much is going to change.

And while the Republicans may come to control Congress, their majority will no doubt be rather short lived if they fail to demonstrate that they are up to the many challenges that lie ahead. And it must be considered a given that the Democrat minority will behave in a far more aggressive manner than has our impotent Republican minority. So I hope that a plan is already being devised that will allow any trouble created by the Democrats to be effectively dealt with. If not, then come 2017 we’ll likely end up right back where we were in 2009, if you get my drift.
