DEMOCRATS OUT TO SQUASH OUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH???
Apparently that very well-known constitutional ‘expert’, Chuckie Schumer, disagrees with Sen. Ted Cruz about the meaning of our First Amendment and what rights it guarantees. Now, of course, everyone knows what an expert is, right? That would, of course, be a drip under pressure. Anyway it’s according to Chuckie and some other Democrat douche by the name of Ted Deutch, both of whom took part in writing a commentary in the left of center publication, Politico, that Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has apparently decided to use some rather questionable tactics in choosing to frame his opposition to a Democrat sponsored constitutional amendment, that would limit campaign spending, as an attack on free speech.
These two rabid ideologues wrote that since defending corporations and billionaires "is no winning position", Cruz has instead chosen to frame his case claiming that Democrats are trying to repeal the First Amendment. But for these two to claim that this is not their actual intent is for them to be more than a little dishonest. The purpose behind their little Politico piece is, I assume, to assist in the promoting of an amendment that would address the 2010 Supreme Court Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission decision. You may, or may not, recall that this was the ruling which prompted Barry to essentially ‘call out’ the Supreme Court during his State of the Union address of that same year.
It was that ruling which determined that political spending by corporations and unions was a form of free speech. The court ruled that while companies and unions can't contribute directly to campaigns, the Constitution protects their right to influence political outcomes through other means. Of course these two vehemently disagree, writing that Cruz claims their amendment would allow books to be banned and free speech to be restricted. They write, "His overheated rhetoric is an attempt to ignore an important truth in the history of our Constitution: We have always had balancing tests for every amendment. No amendment is absolute." I would argue that the source of the "overheated" rhetoric is, most certainly, not Cruz.
In their effort to go after Cruz these two set about doing so by attempting to use the same old, tired argument that been used countless times before and in the same liberal endeavor. That it has never been constitutional in the name of free speech to cry "fire" in a crowded theater, defame or slander without evidence, or promote child pornography. They wrote, "The constitutional amendment we propose will not infringe on citizens' First Amendment rights; rather, it will restore the constitutional legitimacy to laws that set reasonable limits on spending in our elections." Adding, "And now Citizens United has opened the floodgates to billions of dollars coming into the system undisclosed, unregulated and unanswered."
The proposed amendment, or so they would like us all to believe, would "restore some semblance of the principle of one person, one vote, and help us move toward the level of equality that the Founding Fathers sought in our political system." I always find myself simply shaking my head whenever I hear scumbag liberals talking about ‘the Founding Fathers’ as if they actually believe in what those great men believed in. Because I gotta tell you, if the Founders were able to see what it is that corrupt and unethical men like Schumer and this other piece of political dog squeeze, Deutch, have done to this country they would be very disappointed in those of us who allowed such a thing to have happened.
The trouble with what the Democrats’ are proposing here, are those pesky little things that nearly always raise their ugly heads. Those things called, ‘unintended consequences’. And who’s to say that another rogue president, just like Barry, couldn’t come along and do exactly what Cruz has said is very possible, and quote this law as being what gives him, or her, the right to do just that? Anyone who is stupid enough to believe anything that Schumer says is simply a lost cause. The sad thing is, though, that it is those folks who are ruining it for those us able to recognize the fact that we’re being lied to. What the Democrats are seeking here is nothing more than another way of obtaining a lock on their political power.
